Welcome to Renaissance Retreat
We are Paul and Fionnuala Sen, and we first met on an overland trip from London to Kathmandu in 1993. In 1994 we moved to Javea on the Costa Blanca, Spain where we have remained since.
When we welcome you to Renaissance, we are welcoming you to our home. The Retreat is not a clinic or a hotel, but a friendly, safe place in which you will be treated as an individual. To ensure comfort and privacy, we limit the number of guests to just five.
Our trainers and therapists join us at various times during the week according to your programme.

About Us
In 2006, Paul was working as a qualified Personal Trainer at a local PT studio, when we identified a niche in the fitness and weight loss market for something more personal than a bootcamp; so it was that the Renaissance Weight Loss Academy was launched, which we have since renamed the Renaissance Retreat.
We have been asked many times how our team came together as there is an obvious bond between us. Our clients know we are not just a group of individuals who provide a one hour workout or treatment, and then leave. Our bond is one of trust and friendship that existed before the Renaissance Retreat began. It allows us to give our clients the best overall experience as the training, treatments, and therapies complement each other. Finding the right team was as important as the location. Both however, already existed in our private lives.

The Beginnings
At the end of 2001, Paul’s dad, also named Paul, was involved in an accident resulting in a spinal cord injury and the prospect of life in a wheelchair. Following the accident, almost nine months were spent in a spinal unit in Glasgow. Upon his return to Spain for a winter holiday in late 2002, a redesign of the villa to incorporate an indoor rehabilitation pool began. The renovated villa was later to become the perfect secluded location for the Renaissance Retreat.

Attracting a Compassionate Professional Team

The Around the same time Dr Jean Millar entered our lives. Jean became the family Doctor and mentor through the bad days. Her sympathetic but practical approach was refreshing and much appreciated.
Paul decided to raise funds for Spinal Research by taking part in the London Marathons of 2003 - 2005. Francesca, who was a member of the PT studio where Paul worked, joined him in his fund raising, and together they ran the 2004 Marathon. Fran also used her Rosen Method and NLP techniques on us to help us deal with the effects of the accident.
Hans became part of the family fixing team as he initially came on board as Paul’s parents Osteopath. Karen, our nurse, offered some respite to Paul’s Mum Maggie, by visiting a few mornings to help with Paul’s Dad.
The lovely Debra appeared in early 2007 when unfortunately Tricia our holistic therapist and family friend, had to leave the team. Debra practices Reiki and Massage, and exudes compassion.
